Sharks are often wrongly portrayed by the media as dangerous and a threat to divers. In fact sharks are unique and play a crucial role in keeping our ocean healthy. Unfortunately some sharks species are close to becoming extinct and will be lost forever. The Grey Nurse Sharks which are regularly seen on our boat dives at Broughton Island is listed as Critically Endangered. The Project Aware Shark Conservation Course provides valuable information about sharks and the major threats to their existence, as well as some conservation management strategies and the reasons why we should be fighting to save the amazing creatures, but best of all you will learn what action we can take to give sharks a fighting chance.

The course includes two dives where your instructor will discuss environmental issues which affect the wellbeing of the sharks. This course may be counted towards the prestigious Master Scuba Diver rating.

Diving option. The course can be completed as two shore dives but we recommend the course be completed with our double boat dive to Broughton Island. If you are a certified nitrox diver you may receive a nitrox fill in your 2nd tank at a discounted rate if you specify at time of booking!

Your course cost includes a $10 donation to Project A.W.A.R.E. At your discretion you may choose to match or better this donation to help this worthwhile cause.

PADI Wreck Diver Course

Whether sunk on purpose as an artificial reef or the result of mishap, wrecks open fascinating windows to the past. Most divers find wrecked ships, airplanes and even automobiles nearly irresistible because they’re intriguing to explore, exciting avenues of discovery, and usually teeming with aquatic life.

It is an unbelievable experience to see a big ship from a bird’s perspective and to glide towards the captain’s bridge. But there are also tragedies related to wrecks. Diving on wrecks is exciting and there are some potential risks too, but with the right training WRECK DIVING will become a great adventure.

The fun part of the Wreck Diver course is visiting wrecks, unlocking mysteries and starting to gain the knowledge and experience that allows you to see things that others overlook. Sometimes, only the trained, experienced eye recognizes that a small hole or open door likely caused the vessel’s demise.

  • Techniques for diving exploring shipwrecks, and how to avoid common hazards
  • How to research and learn the background of your favorite wrecks
  • Wreck scuba diving equipment considerations
  • Considerations and techniques for entering intact wrecks
  • Experience in planning, and organizing wreck dives under the supervision of your qualified Instructor. This course includes 2 dives on the OAKLAND & 2 dives on the ex-HMAS Adelaide wrecks.
