Aqualung AquaFlex Wetsuit Review
By Cherie and Jim Dodd
What is that saying about how married couples start to look and dress alike? We are Husband and Wife dive team Jim and Cherie Dodd who both work and play in the ocean. Jim is Coxswain / Instructor and Cherie is Instructor / shop girl with Lets Go Adventures. We both had holes in our suits and it was time for new ones so we asked Emma for something we could afford but that would be durable and comfy to work in. About a week later the two Aqualung Aquaflex wetsuits arrived.
JIM: “I looked the suit over and noticed that it was a size L. I’m usually an XL in my clothes and a 4+ in my wetsuits. I tried it on and found that it fitted quite well. Only 5 minutes into my first dive with the new suit I was in love with it. The fit and comfort were great. Warmth wasn’t an issue at this stage as the water temp was 22 degrees C. Over the next three months since getting the Aqualung Aquaflex I’ve done about 70 dives and have nothing but praise for the suit. I’ve done up to three dives a day while teaching open water and Advanced courses in water temps of 19 deg C without an under garment without getting cold. I’ve also done 90+ minute long photography dives with a sharkskin in water temps of 18 deg C without getting the slightest bit cold”.
CHERIE: “I laughed at Emma when she said I was getting a size 14 ladies suit because I am an 18/20 ladies or 5 mens wetsuit but to my surprise when I got the suit I could see it was actually my size. Looking at the size chart I realised that these have a unique sizing breakdown so make sure to look at the measurements not the size! I was SO happy with the stretch and flexibility of this suit. My previous suit (of another brand) was stretchy but as a result it was not as warm as a traditional 5mm but the Aqualung Aquaflex is a true 5mm in warmth! As a new suit it was not too buoyant only needing to add a few pounds. Now with the cooler water I wear a full body sharkskin under the suit and because of the flexibility it remains comfortable and unrestrictive. For me it is a bonus to be a really nice looking suit, a ladies cut that fits my size and has sexy purple stitching and print!”
To sum it up, the Aqualung Aquaflex 5mm wetsuit is excellent value for money, it’s flexible and extremely comfortable. We would recommend it to anyone who is after a wetsuit that’s soft, flexible, comfortable and warm.

The sun is back out and we have large tides this weekend so we will be starting with an early drift for Club day. This weekend is promising to be busy – we are going to Broughton Island at 8am, plus a single dive at 9am on the Oakland. Palau is already booked out, we are close to filling the Truk trip and there is only one premium bungalow left for our Kavieng trip mid year. One of our favourite trips diving the mighty Coolidge is the first of the year which is in May - not long to wait! We are slo excited about our trip at the luxury Atmosphere resort in Dumaguette, with the chance to freedive with whale sharks!
Make sure you take advantage of all the benefits of the Narki Gnome dive club, including free airfils, reduced rates on Nitrox and the free buddy service by renewing your yearly dive club membership. You can do this in store or on line. As we start the new year many of you have set personal goals for yourself. Learning new skills and becoming more proactive with your diving may have been one of them. Some of the courses we have coming up include an Advanced Open Water (9-10th Feb), Rescue Diver (9th Feb) and Enriched Air course (17th Feb). OAKLAND Double dive Fundraiser
As divers we all know the dangers of sun exposure. Recently, one of our local Senior Aircrew man Hunter Region Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has had surgery to remove a cancerous melanoma from his shoulder. Following the removal, further surgery was necessary to remove lymph nodes from his neck and under his arm. On March 9th, in conjunction with Hunter Region Westpac Helicopter Service, we will hosting dive day and BBQ to raise some much needed funds to assist with his recovery. On the day, at 8:00am, a tec-diving boat (Limit 8 divers) will depart the Dalbora marina for the wreck of the Oakland for a semi tech dive, run time determined on the day. At 9:00am there will be a second dive boat departing Dalbora Marina, for a double dive on Oakland wreck. We urge all divers to get involved. You can book online See this facebook event for more detail.

Let’s Go Diving- 28 Nov News
What another amazing week we have had. Summer is just around the corner and it shows. Conditions for this weekend are looking perfect. Not only is the weather warming up but the water is up to a scorching 20 degrees!! We also have flat seas, little wind and visibility expected to be well over 20 metres. Perfect time to get wet.
We are all still recovering from the Christmas party. If you haven’t had a chance, check out the photos on our facebook page. If you have any pictures you would like to donate please email them to us or share on our facebook page. (can spot the resemblance between Emma, Adam and Chris, Pam) hehe
With Christmas just around the corner we have just received the new GoPro® Hero3 Silver Edition camera. We’re all extremely excited about this and are really looking forward to viewing some underwater images. The GoPro® Hero3 is the next generation in GoPro cameras. It’s an ultra-light, durable and versatile camera providing effortless professional images. If you would like one please call the shop, be quick as they’re selling fast. See here for information on the new GoPro® Hero3.
We would like to send a huge congratulation to both Kath and Todd for passing their instructor exams!!!! It is a great achievement and we are super excited for them. Our other instructor candidates will be completing their instructor exams early next year. We wish them luck.
Adam, Rowan and Nigel have just refreshed their service technician qualifications. It is highly important to continually service and maintain your dive gear; we service and repair all types of equipment. If your gear is in need of a service, pop into the shop and we’ll organise that for you. We also have a huge selection of dive gear available so if you need to update your gear come on in to discuss your options.
Speaking of maintaining equipment, both of our dive boats Tomaree and Diveaway have been to the scuba spa. The boys have worked very hard to spruce up the boats to get them in tip-top shape for summer. If you are keen to come out for a boat dive you can book online or in-store today. See here for more details.

Lets Go Diving-22 Oct News
What an amazing week we have had. The Narki Gnome Christmas Party was always going to be a blast but with over 103 coming to let down their hair and party! The night was even more special with the presentation to Pam and Chris form PADI for over 30 years of outstanding service to the diving industry. We also were not expecting to receive to 20 year award for this dive centre – a combined Pro Dive Nelson Bay & Lets Go Adventures.
A big thank you to Scubapro, for donating our major prize for the Christmas Party - Lynn Clark was the excited winner, with Nicola Davis winning the BCD, Claire Brew winning the camera and Susan winning a wetsuit and Margot Crane & John Hughes the lucky boat diving winners.
We have an album of Christmas Party pictures on our facebook page. We are not sure if anyone took pictures of Brad & Aaron busting out the moves on the dance floor or if you were all just as mesmerized as us and forgot ? If you have any good pictures of the night that you would like us to add please email them to us or share on our facebook page.
We have many more people to congratulate this week. Our instructor candidates worked hard on their IDC and the first 3 will be off to their PADI Instructor Exam (IE) this weekend. Ian, Mitch Julie & Ben completed their Boat & Jetski License course, Eric, Kris, Matthew & Troy completed their Stage A Apnea Australia Freediving course (a PADI Distinctive specialty) and Rueben, Lauren, Gareth & Dean who completed their PADI Open Water Dive Course

Summer is on its way and we are all very excited. Whilst the visibility has not been at its best lately, we are pleased to hear that the water is warming up to a lovely 20 degrees.
Adam and the gang are on their way back from Fiji. From reports, they have had the time of their lives. They’ve thoroughly enjoyed diving in 27 degree waters and with the visibility being well over 30 metres it was very easy to spot those BIG Bull Sharks!!!! We are looking forward to hearing all their stories when they get back. Don’t forget that we have other amazing dive trips coming up. Next year we have trips planned for Truk Lagoon, Kavieng and of course the amazing Coolidge. Spots are filling up fast so book early to avoid being disappointed see here for further details.
We sadly missed out on the annual Port Stephens Business Awards. With over 10,000 nominations, we were very happy just to be nominated. We are however very pleased to hear that we have been leading the Dive Log competition for best regional operator at the moment. Thank you to all you have voted. If you would like to participate please go to divelog.net.au and click the “Who is” button to cast your vote. Your vote is very important to us.
