The PADI Divemaster program through Let’s Go Adventures was an amazing experience and has taught me many valuable lessons about working together as a team and how to be a better diver and role model.
I began the course in summer 2015 during my last year of my school education. I would travel up to Nelson Bay most weekends to go diving with the Let’s Go team and familiarise myself with the dive sites of Port Stephens and Broughton Island. I also learnt the ropes of how the dive boat, the Tomaree, worked, including safety procedures and how to drop and pull up the anchor properly. I improved my organisation skills while helping load and unload dive gear while simultaneously supervising divers and setting them up with rental gear. The Divemaster program required that I fine tune my dive skills to the point of being able to demonstrate skills to students as I assisted instructors with their Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water courses.
All in all, the most rewarding part of being a Divemaster is seeing divers’ eyes light up with amazement at the sight of the Grey Nurse sharks at North Rock, Broughton Island and being able to do something I love.
