Aqualung Legend Twilight Regulator Review

Im going to be honest here. I really didn’t need a new set of regs, but I really couldn’t resist the gorgeous Aqualung Legend Twilight. For those who are wondering the twilight series, has nothing to do with underwater vampires, but is simply a range of purple and black dive equipment released by Aqualung for the ladies. (And no I haven’t read the books or watched the movies)

The gorgeous Aqualung Legend twilight edition regulator.

The Aqualung twilight regulator is the same as the top of the range Legend LUX in its breathing rate, and has the same MBS (simplified adjustable breathing controls) and ACD (auto closure device – to stop you accidentally flooding your first stage) but it has the striking black, stainless steel and twilight(purple) colouring. It also comes with an equally desirable reg bag and can co-ordinate with the new Suunto D4I Twilight, the Whites trilaminate Drysuit, Aquaflex 5mm suit, Seaquest Soul I3 and Pearl BCD’s. Im very lucky to also own the very limited edition twilight travel bag 🙂

Fashion aside, I must say the Aqualung twilight regs do breathe well in the 30-35m depth range. While I am not convinced they breathe better than my Scubapro MK25/S600 or my Apeks XTX200 which I use for tec diving, I really enjoy the much lighter second stage and smaller mouthpiece and thus less jaw fatigue. This is what I love about my Aqualung mikrons which I use on shallow shore dives and for travel. The Legend twilight first stage is not as light as a travel reg, but definitely gives you much better performance.
So I am glad I have this very sexy reg in my scuba wardrobe. For the ladies I think this is a wonderful all rounder, allowing excellent performance at depth, but with the same lighter second stage normally only found on travel regs. And they do look very cool…
So tell me what is your favourite regulator? And have you ever bought a piece of dive equipment because of its looks?
